Keeping it short and sweet today with the announcement of a new interview series: FIRE with Kids!
I’ll begin sharing the stories of families who are pursing or planning to pursue financial independence with kids later this summer. Now looking for interviewees!
Read on for more about this series, including how to connect with me if you’d like to participate.
Why focus on FIRE with Kids?
Because that’s our own journey and niche.
I enjoy reading all different types of Financial Independence / Retire Early stories, but I can’t always relate to them.
Achieving financial independence is a huge accomplishment, regardless of the composition of your family! However, determining your FIRE number and reaching this milestone is even more challenging and nuanced when one or more people are depending on you for their physical and/or financial care.
Our story isn’t just about what my husband and I want and need. Nor is it only about the adventures we dream of taking. We have a young child that we have to consider in our plans. She’s only five, so will rely on us for many more years. Because of this, our available options and challenges might be different than those experienced by a single person or childless couple.
Selfishly, I’m starting this interview series as an excuse to connect with more families like mine.
We don’t know anyone else in our circle of acquaintances who are on a similar path. It would be amazing to get to know, exchange ideas, and share this journey with other likeminded families.
My goal for the “FIRE with Kids” interview series is to collect and share the stories, struggles, and advice of families who are pursuing financial independence and/or early retirement with dependents.
What types of families will we feature on this series?
There are many different types of families, and I won’t exclude anyone outright based on some arbitrary definition.
To provide some context, I designed this interview series for families who (1) are pursuing financial independence (with or without early retirement); and (2) have kids and/or other dependents, or are planning to have kids.
You don’t have to be married, or even have a significant other. You also don’t have to actually have kids. My preference is that if you don’t have kids, you are planning to or you are responsible for the physical and/or financial care of a loved one.
However, if you have a story to tell and feel like it fits the overall theme, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
There are so many important voices to be heard. The more stories we share, the more people are likely to find an example that they can relate to.
Spreading the idea of FIRE is something that I’m really passionate about. Not wildfires, those are just bad.
How will the FIRE with Kids interview series work?
If you’d like to participate, I’ll send a list of questions for you to fill out and return at your convenience.
You can share as much or as little about your family as you want. I value anonymity, especially when it comes to sharing information about finances and kids. If you’re comfortable spilling all the details and sharing first names, ages, and family photos, that great. I’ll be glad to include them. However, if you’d like to remain anonymous, that’s cool too.
Additionally, you do not need to be a blogger or content creator to participate in this series. If you don’t have your own platform, this is a great way to share your story and connect with others.
That said, for fellow bloggers or content creators, I’ll be happy to include one backlink within the interview post to your site so people know where to find you if they’re inspired and want to follow your journey.
